Moments in Motion, is so special to me. As children, we start gathering moments and holding on to them. Sometimes those moments are wonderful and life changing and other times those moments are not as wonderful and also life changing. All of these moments create a beautiful tapestry of who we become and who we are evolving to become. For me, so many of these moments have been around the shore. When my dad passed away from Alzheimer’s disease 6 years ago, I was searching for ways to hold on to moments with him as he slowly faded away. It was then that I started to focus my energy into creating again so that the pain and the feelings I was experiencing could be reflected in my work. Often times words just aren’t enough. When Covid hit, we all retreated to our homes and had to hide away from creating moments the way we once did. For us, we went to the beach - with two young kids, the vast shore line seemed the only way to tire them out. We started collection shells, once that got old, we switched to sea glass and finally bottles of sand. It just sat on our kitchen island. This alone time during Covid really allowed me to explore my work, I was given the chance to tell the story of these moments I’ve create through my work. So one day, I just started to add sand to my paint as a way to connect my childhood moments with the present and essentially freeze time. I loved the way the texture felt - it was organic. My work has always been 3 dimensional. In order for me to evoke the elements of the shore and the new moments I am creating with my family, I needed to add depth and even greater texture. That’s how moments in Motion came to be. Art tells a story. This collection tells mine and I hope it can tell yours, too. So please, lean in, take a look, close your eyes and remember your moments.
